WINE & WAVES — MORNINGTON PENINSULA

Fine food, exceptional wine and a day by the sea— sounds like paradise! The Mornington Peninsula, an hour’s drive from Melbourne, offers this and more. Relax and enjoy the gentle hills and stunning views of the coast, all the while sampling some of Victoria’s best food and wine.

Overview

The Peninsula divides the calming waters of Port Phillip Bay from the pounding ocean surf of Bass Strait. It’s hilly, rocky and covered in native coastal heath—some of it rare but all protecting an array of native wildlife including kangaroos, echidna and colourful native birds. With a cool climate and sheltered valleys, the vineyards of the peninsula are famous for their Pinot Noir and, more recently, Pinot Grigio. With a passion for food and wine, Southern Secrets will take you off the tourist circuit to embrace the best of Peninsula boutique wineries.

Lunch

Of course, fine wine deserves fine food and the Peninsula has plenty to offer. Two options for lunch are provided, one a local favourite, the other a fine dining experience.

1. Merricks General Wine Store

Set in beautiful surrounds and a favourite amongst locals, this restaurant offers superb wine and sumptuous local produce prepared with French subtlety.

2. Ten Minutes by Tractor - Award winning winery and restaurant

For fans of fine-dining, this is a must. Exceptional local wine and an unforgettable menu, inspired from produce grown on the peninsula.
